May 2024 Devlog - R for Revenge

Hello Agent! This is Tien Lee, the one and only developer behind the top-down shooter "R for Revenge", here with the May 2024 devlog update.

This past month has been a highly productive one as I've continued to make substantial progress on the core gameplay and feature set for "R for Revenge". The biggest additions are the implementation of a computer that the player can access to progress missions, as well as introduction to a new playable character, Selena.

Computer Screen Interface

One of the key design goals for "R for Revenge" is to give the player a strong sense of agency and control over their loadout, progression, and strategy. To that end, I've added a robust computer that the player can access from within the game world. This interface serves as a command hub where players can perform a variety of important actions such as view and accept new missions, upgrade character skills and weapons or change active agent. I believe it will add a compelling meta-layer of strategy on top of the frenetic moment-to-moment gameplay. Players will need to carefully manage their resources, skills, and character choices in order to overcome the game's challenging encounters.

New Playable Character: Selena

In addition to the core player character, I've added a new playable protagonist named Selena beside V. Selena is a highly skilled and experienced soldier who brings some truly unique abilities to the table:

  • Boomerang Throw: Selena can launch a deadly boomerang which will go through wall, damage enemies in its path and then return directly to her, allowing for precision ranged attacks and crowd control. This ability requires careful timing and positioning to utilize effectively.
  • Armor Up: Selena can briefly envelop herself in a powerful suit of military-grade armor, rendering her completely invincible to all damage for a short duration. This can be invaluable for surviving intense firefights or escaping dire situations.

Selena's military background and gadget-focused skill set should provide players with a compelling alternative playstyle to V. I'm really looking forward to seeing how the community integrates Selena's abilities into their overall strategies and approaches to R for Revenge.

That's the key progress for this past month. As always, I'm incredibly grateful for the continued support and feedback from the community. Please feel free to provide any suggestions or ideas you may have - I'm always eager to incorporate player input into the development process.

I'm extremely excited to keep pushing forward with this project, and I can't wait to share more updates in the months to come. Until next time!
